Is this just "normal" business these days?
I recently ordered some ammo online and was charged that same day I made the order for a product that showed "in-stock" on the website.
They still have not shipped the order yet - but charged me 2 weeks ago...is this becoming the norm? I never had issues like this before - but thinking about companies charging without having the product on hand/ready to ship is BS!!!! |

No, that is complete BS. Cancel the order, tell them it's BS, and then buy somewhere else.

What online store was this?

Oh yeah - I am pissed - they charged me on the 7th of this month - still "processing" the order.
I have an e-mail out to them to ship this week or cancel my order - I let them know how I feel about their order/payment ethics. This lovely experience is offered to you by: Alamo Ammo |

Next time, try ammunitiontogo.com The first couple of times, I always called in my order by phone (being paranoid about what you experienced). They constantly assured me that if it's on their website, they have it in stock. After the first couple of times, I just went ahead and ordered off their website... the stuff ALWAYS showed up in a couple of days. Their prices are reasonable to low. Sometimes bottom-fishing on price can get you shooting yourself in the foot. I suspect that's how those "alamo" folks got to screw you. Hoping your future ammo acquisitions are smoother in the future! And... thanks for warning all of us about this "outfit." |

Yeah, I agree - I try to stay with a few online retailers I am experienced with - however none of them had the specific ammo I was looking for at the time.
Thanks for the input - glad to know this isn't the accepted norm - even during the "shortage" |
Re: Is this just "normal" business these days?
Alot if online retailers have no inventory at all. They lead you to believe they do by showing quantities on hand from their suppliers.
Sometimes the suppliers don't have any when the online company orders your order due to other companies using up inventory. |
Re: Is this just "normal" business these days?
Strangely enough, I've had excellent results purchasing ammo off of Gun Broker.
IF I find a vendor who has a good product at a good price, I buy a case. If it's shipped rapidly and is as it was described, they get more business. EVENTUALLY, they run out of what ever it was that I wanted. So I look for my next supplier. Anyway, that's what I've done in the past. In this day and age, there is no 'nornal' business practices. We are entering a 'cut throat' type of environment. As TN_Andy says: Stack it wide and deep... |

Re: Is this just "normal" business these days?
I had a Ruger LCP on order for most of 2009 and had ordered it when it was clearly advertised as, "In stock, hurry!" I'd check their website periodically and the inventory would alternate between various numbers 'on hand' and out of stock. They were simply lying and taking back orders to kingdom come. Eventually the prices on Gunbroker dropped below that of the dealer so I canceled, or at least tried to. All emails to them informed me I had to call if I wanted to cancel, but calling just went into an endless hold. Ended up ordering a new credit card number so they could never charge me. This is the new customer service, but then again I was bottom fishing for the lowest possible price. Lesson learned here.

I purchase about 1,000 rounds of .45 hollow points from Georgia Arms and it took about 6 weeks until it shipped, but they stated that on their website, and they never billed me until it shipped.
So who did you buy it from so we can avoid them. |

They can have to do a delayed settlement transaction where it authorizes the the charge and holds the funds, but they aren't supposed to actual settle it until it ships. If the full charge has gone through/settled and they haven't shipped I'd be on the phone to my CC company. |
Re: Is this just "normal" business these days?
Purchasing from reputable vendors is a premium worth the inconvenience of paying a bit extra for a purchase. Sportsman guide made good on a loss/error on behalf of fed-ex.
I'd gladly take piece of mind on an important multi-hundred dollar purchase over the meager savings. |

improves cash flow for them and you might be paying their payroll...
a day or two is ok but two weeks?! |
